Empowerment Through Spoken Word
Sistah Cypher, a group of spoken word artists, uses poetry to foster a sense of community unity. The poets are united to implement social change and to empower women through their art. Come hear The Original Woman and Queen Sheba every second Saturday of the month beginning Aug. 14, from 6:30 p.m. to 2 a.m., at Between Friends (1115 U St. NW). The suggested donation is $10, but no one will be turned away. For more information, call Nitche Ward at 202/215-1236.
DC Metro Action is published by Michael Schlesinger, a 32-year veteran of electoral and issue organizing who is committed to social justice and to increasing participation in the political process.
