Celebrate Asian/Pacific Islander LGBTs
This month, many events in the DC metro area are celebrating Asian/Pacific Islander Heritage Month. A new local series focuses specifically on a growing activist population: lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) Asian and Pacific Islander Americans.
Pride and Heritage: A Celebration of the A/PI LGBT Communities will "celebrate and empower the A/PI LGBT community in the metro DC area, which has one of the largest Asian/Pacific Islander populations in the country," says Ben de Guzman, an activist for AQUA (A/PI Queers United for Action). Events include a community-wide potluck on Sunday, May 25, and an event specifically for A/PI youths ages 25 and under at the end of the month.
